FBI Establishes Corruption Hot Line Number Will Make It Easier To Report Government Corruption
February 28, 2007
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego FBI office has set up a hot line to make it easier for the public to report corruption among government officials, it was reported Wednesday. Dial 1-800-PIMPS
The hot line, 877-NO-BRIBE or 877-662-7423, was established so people know what to do with tips that often result in full-blown investigations, officials told The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The FBI has about 2,200 public corruption cases pending nationwide.
In the last two years, indictments are up 40 percent and FBI investigations have led to the conviction of more than 1,060 government employees. That number includes 177 federal officials, 158 state officials, 360 locals and more than 365 police officers, San Diego FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth told the Union-Tribune.
The San Diego FBI office has investigated several corruption cases in recent years, most notably the congressional bribery scandal involving former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham
"There is a growing intolerance by the American people of public corruption -- an intolerance reflected in the willingness to come forward and report abuse of public office," Foxworth told the newspaper. "We are always grateful for those who come forward to report corruption."
